The American Idol winner co-wrote ten of the eleven songs on his upcoming Live It Up record, which is released tomorrow.
"I wanted to look at it and just know I had a lot to do with it," he explained during an appearance on the Today show this morning.
"Working with the writers was an awesome experience and they really let me do my thing and it worked out really well."
DeWyze, who added that his record label was "cool" with his desire to co-write tracks, was on the NBC show to perform his new single 'Sweet Serendipity', which premiered on Ryan Seacrest's KIIS-FM radio show last month.
The singer recently took to his Twitter account to thank fans for their support ahead of his record's release, writing: "I guess, with everything going on, and the album coming out and all... I can really say you have all been the best.
"You have all really inspired me. I am looking forward to making music for a long time, and I'm glad to know you're all right there with me. Thanks for everything."
Live It Up is released on November 16.
