Billboard reports that second-place finisher Bowersox sold over 19,000 more units than winner DeWyze's Live It Up in its first week, selling 58,000 copies.
Despite outselling her former competition, Bowersox's album didn't live up to other American Idol runner-up sales from former seasons.
Her album only ranked higher than season one runner-up Justin Guarini, whose debut album sold 57,000 copies, and season three's second-place finisher Diana Degarmo, who sold 47,000 copies.
On the other end of the spectrum, eighth-season runner-up Adam Lambert sold 198,000 copies of his For Your Entertainment album in the first week of sales.
Season two's second-place finisher Clay Aiken posted sales of 613,000 copies of Measure of a Man in that album's first week of release.
