The season ten finalist was given the singer's blessing to perform 'You and I' on the live Wednesday show, which saw the hopefuls attempting one current track and one song from the 1960s.
"Jimmy Iovine came to me and was really excited about this song," she told Ryan Seacrest ahead of her performance. "He said, 'This isn't released yet. She does it at her concerts. It's an amazing song and I think you'd do a good take on it'."
Reinhart went on to say that she had initially been unsure and had wanted to speak with GaGa to "get her blessing" before she agreed to performing the track.
"I wanted to speak to her and see if that was OK because I didn't want to step on anybody's toes," she added. "I got to speak with her and she was excited about it as well. I thought, 'You know what? I'm going to go for it!'"
Guest mentor Sheryl Crow said that choosing an unreleased GaGa song was a "Super Bowl choice" for the finalist, while Iovine said that the track would show where Reinhart could go in her career.
American Idol continues tonight at 8/7 on Fox when another contestant will be sent home. Jennifer Lopez and Pitbull will perform their track 'On The Floor', while Lady Antebellum will also perform.
