Lauren Alaina has revealed that she has wanted to release an album ever since she was 3.

The former American Idol contestant opened up about her early music ambitions in an interview with Robin Roberts for an In The Spotlight special, airing Tuesday, November 8 at 10pm ET on ABC.

Alaina said: "Since I was, like, 3 years old, [I've] been a really big ham. I just love to be in front of crowds and sing.

"I've wanted to put out an album since I was 3 years old. I don't even know if that's possible, if a 3-year-old has that mentality, but it's always been a goal of mine."

Alaina finished runner-up to Scotty McCreery on the tenth season of American Idol earlier this year, and recently released her debut album Wildflower, which contains her first single 'Like My Mother Does'.

The country singer, who was filmed for the special buying a copy of her album at a Best Buy store, added to Roberts that Carrie Underwood had already been in touch to say she had bought her own copy of the record.

She added: "[Carrie] texted me today and told me she bought the album and watched me on Good Morning America. She said she was super excited and had written a blog about me on her website.

"Carrie Underwood is very special to me, she is one of my friends now which is crazy!"

Alaina previously admitted that her success on American Idol and newfound responsibilities as a recording artist meant she had to grow up quickly.

"Before American Idol all I had to worry about was which boy I thought was cute for the week, now I have to worry about which song is going to be my single for the next few months!" she told Ryan Seacrest's radio show.

"I've had to grow up. I can't think of things as a little child now, I have to be mature and make good decisions. I have a great team around me that helps me with that but still, it wears off on you."

Alaina is scheduled to appear at the 2011 American County Awards alongside McCreery on Monday, December 5 from 8pm ET/PT on Fox.
