McFly: 'One For The Radio'
Four years, three albums and 13 singles into their career, McFly have come of age. They've ditched Island Records in pursuit of greater creative control, set up their own label and signed a genuinely ballsy deal with the Mail on Sunday, which will distribute copies of their new album six weeks before it's available in the shops.

New single 'One For The Radio' reflects their new-found creative freedom, showcasing a tougher, more muscular sound that owes an obvious debt to US pop/punk. The lyrics are spikier too, taking aim at closet McFly fans who are too snobbish to admit they like the band. Truth be told, this isn't McFly's most infectious single, but the boys deserve credit for trying something different and making a decent job of it.

I hope they are paying Disney for the use of the verses of the Gummi Bears theme. It's like a very poor mans Green Day song with kids TV thrown into the mix.

Terrible. Skinny white suburban boys pretending to be yankie rockers. Truly awful.

Going by the sales of the single at the moment compared to the competition One for the radio is heading straight for number one, making it their 8th number one single out of 14, 4 of their other singles reached top 3 and the other two singles both had already been released on an album but still made it into top 10, they've had two number one albums, and their third album also made it into top ten, and their last album release was their greatest hits which they did not even want to do, and wasn't promoted very well, still reached number 3 in the charts, so whoever said McFLY were going downhill, and the record label have let them go because of lack of sales, well clearly you know nothing. ANYWAY I SUGGEST EVERYONE BUY THE MAIL ON SUNDAY THIS SUNDAY lol, if u don't like it, oh well aint lost anything, if u do, well then u've discovered a new band u like, I think everyone should now give these boys a chance to prove themselves, they've always been judged and labeled, but they've got some pretty amazing songs hidden away in their albums, and the songs I've heard off this new album so far, all seem pretty epic.

Reading some of the comments from people here made me snigger a bit because its those very people that Mcfly are saying 'we hope you drop dead!' to. I would also say to 'Ali' who made the comment about Island records, for your information, island records were desperate to renew mcfly's contract and it was the group who decided that they no longer wished to be with a company who forced them to appear on kiddy shows and who told them which songs from the albums should be released as singles. The greatest hits album that they did not want released was the last straw. This is all fact. What you have said about Island not wanting them and plummeting album sales is rubbish and you need to get your facts straight. I should also point out to the so called Mcfly haters who have posted here that you fit into the category being discussed in the song. You say you hate them. You hate their music and yet you know all their songs. Mcfly are so far above boring bands like Coldplay and many others i could mention. They have more number ones that Queen and Robbie williams etc. So in response the Mcfly slaters are in the minority. McFly will have yet another number one with this song and another number one album and we'll all try not to peek as you secretly head off to the shops and buy it yourself. Yadda Yadda Yadda!!!!!

It's not a "horrible, awful" single, but not their best. I have great respect for them and the choices they've made. I don't think they're trying to sound more mature, just to write and play how they like. And apparently this isn't too different from some of they're other songs. And I don't see anything wrong with that. And P.S. "Transylvania" was AWESOME :-P

McFly's "One For The Radio" is just what they need to be famous in the states. Their older stuff was amazing too but they would have the same probably they do in UK that only younger girls like them. If they stick to this type of song they will be HUGE like they deserve to be.

It's awful - they've only set up their own label, because the record comapny didn't want them anymore - their albums were selling less and less......

Superb song, great lyrics (good ''screw you'' to the haters). They don't care, they love what they do, and it really shows in the quality of their writing, music, and the video is great too.
