Primal Scream: 'Can't Go Back'
Primal Scream have made a couple of classic albums in their time. The seminal acid-house indie of Screamadelica and blistering Krautrock-meet-electro of XTRMNTR sit proudly on any rock buff's shelves. Unfortunately, in between those records they've released some dreadful Rolling Stones rip-offs and a bizarre dalliance with Kate Moss, somewhat undermining their status as one of Britain's finest exponents of filthy punk.

'Can't Go Back', the band's first proper single in nearly two years, suggests the Scottish rockers are coming back to top form. With Martin Duffy digging out his grottiest keyboard sounds, Mani bashing out yet another classic bassline and frontman Bobby Gillespie dishing out some typically lurid lyrics ("Stick a needle in my veins..."), it's a four-minute blast of fist-pumping fun. Fans will be keeping everything crossed that the impending Beautiful Future album can equal it.
