The Saturdays: 'If This Is Love'

With Girls Aloud (four studio albums) and Sugababes (five) getting on a bit in pop terms, it was only a matter of time before somebody put together a new girl group. And here they are. The Saturdays, signed to Girls Aloud's label Fascination Records, are a fresh-faced five-piece featuring two former members of S Club Juniors.

This debut single is nothing that Rachel Stevens couldn't have given us three or four years ago: a midtempo electropop tune with a memorable chorus and a crafty Yazoo sample slipped in for bonus street cred. It's a solid, promising effort, but not really in the same league as the best debuts by British girl groups: 'Sound of the Underground', 'Overload, 'Wannabe', 'Aie A Mwana'. (Erm, scrub that last one.)

Excellent song, although the beginning keyboard bit is from Yazoo Situation - Vince Clark's keyboard skills are unmistakeable, but brilliant song - keep it up!!!

Not a bad track but not great. Nice little riff in it which holds it together, actually. Terrible video in which they are photographed unflatteringly with oodles of post-processing effects aimed at making them synthetically glam but actually makes them just look horrible (making videos that look beautiful and great and also make the performers seem god-like seems to be yet another area in which Britain lags behind the USA). The girls also look rather nervous and unconvincing as performers. I guess they will improve in that department, if given the chance.

In response to above comments: the girl with short dark hair (Frankie) sings half the lines of the CHORUS alone! Watch the live video on youtube. The next single has been confirmed as 'Up', which is a brilliant song.

I love The Saturdays! 'If This Is Love' is such a good song! Can't wait for the 2nd single which is a song called 'Up' that is even better! These girls are soo talented and pretty! Hope they get far! Good luck to them!

The song has grew one me and I like it, however I do think the girl with the short, dark hair should have had more to sing.

Dreadful song! Awful band name! Who was responsible for giving this band a record deal, and how much are they paying the radio stations (which seem to be playing it non-stop)? They'll never ever succeed as the "next big girl band", and to compare them to the likes of the Sugababes and Girls Aloud is an insult to these brilliant groups. Do not buy this single!
