Nelly ft. Akon, Ashanti: 'Body On Me'

How times have changed. Five years ago a Nelly/Ashanti hook-up would have been a surefire smash, but these days Akon, the track's producer, needs to step in to boost its chances. This is both a curse and a blessing: on the one hand, Akon hasn't exactly been under-exposed of late; on the other, 'Body On Me' could do with the extra help.

It's a decent enough eighties-flavoured R&B jam - certainly more melodic than Nelly's last single, 'Party People' - but it lacks excitement, originality and anything approaching a killer hook. In fact, only an unpleasant Akon lyric really sticks in the find after listening - and we never want to hear the expression "get in those drawers and bang it out 'til the morning" again.
