Das Pop: 'Underground'
What is Belgium famous for? Jean Claude Van Damme, good quality chocolates, Hercule Poirot and Stella Artois are currently top of a distinctly unimpressive list. It's fortunate, therefore, that Das Pop have arrived to stamp their homeland on the musical map and show us that continental Europe can match the Scandinavians and British for giddy pop thrills.

Treading similar but slightly indier ground to Alphabeat's recent feel-good romps, 'Undergound' is unashamed jingly-jangly soft rock. Combining naughty lyrics ("You knew just what to do to me, the things you learned in Germany"), dramatic string flourishes and some simple, old-fashioned guitar hooks, it's as infectious as a summer cold. With Soulwax working on their upcoming album and uber-cool dance duo Justice already singing their praises, Das Pop could be destined for very big things.
