The Fratellis: 'Look Out Sunshine!'

The exclamation mark at the end of the title here is actually rather misleading, because there's nothing in the new Fratellis single to provoke a gasp, a fright or anything resembling a sharp intake of breath. To be honest, it falls closer to Chelsea Pensioner than 'Chelsea Dagger' on the rowdiness scale.

Nor is it a catchy strummed ballad in the vein of 'Whistle For The Choir'. Instead 'Look Out Sunshine!' finds the Scottish three-piece plodding along at midtempo and trying to compensate with a chorus that strives for anthemic but never quite makes it. The result? A workmanlike, one-notch-above-competent single that suggests the "pub band" tag haunting the Fratellis isn't entirely unjustified.
