The Automatic: 'Steve McQueen'
Pop music's history is littered with one hit wonders - Joe Dolce, Lou Bega, Babylon Zoo, Chesney Hawkes, the list goes on. Then there's The Automatic, the perky Welsh upstarts who scored a top three smash with their boisterous, chant-along anthem 'Monster' back in the summer of 2006. The track was even adopted by England football fans as a tribute to beanpole striker Peter Crouch - a sure sign that the band had crossed the indie/pop divide.

Attempting to find a follow-up hit to match 'Monster' has so far proved elusive for the group. However, after shedding irritating synth-basher Alex Pennie, and hitting studios in LA and Cardiff, the 'Matic seem to have rediscovered the magic formula. With a beefed-up arsenal of guitars and a snarling, infectious chorus, 'Steve McQueen' is a brilliant slice of old fashioned rawk. It's not clever, it's not original, but it sounds pretty terrific with the speakers turned up to max.
