New Kids On The Block: 'Summertime'

The reasons behind the New Kids reunion are pretty obvious, but it's still hard not to think 'Why?' when confronted with news of the inevitable comeback tour, comeback single and comeback album. They may have been huge in their day, shifting an astonishing 70 million records, but time hasn't been kind to the group's back catalogue and few pop fans will have been clamouring for the chance to see Jordan, Joey and the gang back together again.

'Summertime', that inevitable comeback single, finds the group trying to act at least a decade younger than they actually are (between 35 and 39, for the record). The video shows the New Kids in varying states of undress frolicking about on the beach with girls half their age, while the track itself is a functional pop/R&B tune that sounds like a Nelly album filler from 2002. The lack of dignity here is so crippling that even their name - New? Kids? - seems to mock them as it plays.

Cringeworthy at best!!! Music video is so funny when there dancing in wite suits at the end!! Don't pull a hip out guys haha! This track is a mellow, cool R&B/reggae song but its kinda dated it sounds like something the Backstreet Boys would have done back in the day!!!!

Excuse me? This is a brilliant song. It should have been No. 1 instead of Katy Perry and her lesbian song. The person who wrote this review knows s**t all about good music. I hope and pray that it's No. 1 next week

I didn't even know it was the New Kids who sung this song. It is a decent track and who cares if they are old, it worked for Fake That ;)

I disagree. Yes NKOTB are in their late 30's and so not really a boy band but I think this single is very good and will definitely feature in my MP3 catalogue. BTW - yes I was a NKOTB fan back then too and I know a vast number of their original fans have been willing their comeback. I think it is you who is a little out of touch to compare 'Summertime' to track that Nelly would really record. Even Ne-Yo has got behind NKTOB. I fear that you are probably not best placed to judge the RNB market!!
