Avenue: 'Last Goodbye'
It remains to be seen whether music fans really want a new boyband, but five-member "vocal harmony group" Avenue have plenty going for them on paper. They've had exposure on The X Factor (albeit two years ago now), they're much more polished than Billiam (though, to be fair, that isn't difficult) and their debut single isn't a drippy ballad (thank goodness).

Instead, it's a giddy dance-pop tune co-written by Orson's Jason Pebworth. The production pilfers cleverly from filter disco, giving 'Last Goodbye' that all-important modern edge, and the lyrics have a surprisingly bitter aftertaste ("You're still the queen of wannabes..."). It's not a classic, but if Westlife came out with a track like this once in a while, they'd be a whole lot more tolerable.
