Colbie Caillat: 'Bubbly'

America first heard 'Bubbly', the signature tune from Californian folk-popper Colbie Caillat, in May 2007. It proved an instant hit and helped Caillat's debut album, Coco, to go platinum across the pond. She also struck gold in Australia, where this breezy acoustic number eventually peaked at No.1. Sadly for Colbie, we Brits are yet to fall under its spell.

Maybe it was held back by a typically rubbish British summer, or perhaps by the over-abundance of female singer-songwriters in the charts at the time. Either way, 'Bubbly' was unable to climb any higher than #65 when it was released over here last year. It may fare a little better this time around thanks to solid support from Radio 2, but there's little here to suggest the British public were wrong to ignore Caillat last time out. 'Bubbly' is simply too polite to leave much of an impression.
