Oasis: 'The Shock Of The Lightning'

Coldplay (Ugly!), Radiohead (Students!), U2 (Time-wasters!), Kaiser Chiefs (Like The Monkees) and Mark Ronson (Steals other people's tunes!) have all felt the wrath of the Gallagher brothers during Oasis's latest round of interviews. Though many critics are questioning the band's musical relevance in the post-Arctic Monkeys era, one thing's for certain: they still know how to grab the headlines.

Frustrated by criticism that the band had slipped into self-parody, Noel's said recently that their new material is a shift away from the anthemic, chart-friendly hits of old. Thankfully, he was talking a load of twaddle and new single 'The Shock of The Lightning' sounds like classic Oasis. Noel and Zac Starkey supply a thrilling blast of drums and guitars, while Liam somehow manages to sneer the word "time" so that it includes about twelve syllables. This certainly isn't the band's finest hour, but it packs enough of a punch to get us excited about the new album.
