James Morrison: 'You Make It Real'

Despite selling more than two million copies of his debut album, winning a Brit Award in the process, James Morrison remains the most unassuming of stars. When he introduced himself to Madonna recently, she apparently responded by declining to shake his hand and asking, "And what you do?" Rude, deplorable behaviour of course, but also quite telling.

'You Make It Real', the lead single from album number two, sticks to the formula that made his debut a success: loads of strings, politely soulful vocals, reasonably rousing crescendos. The lyrics, meanwhile, tell us that Morrison's a homely sort who prefers the love of a good woman to the trappings of fame. It's relentlessly pleasant, but lacking the big chorus that turned 'You Give Me Something' and 'What A Wonderful World' into radio favourites.
