Kaiser Chiefs: 'Never Miss A Beat'
The Kaiser Chiefs mastered the art of appealing to 13-year-old girls and thirtysomething blokes on their first two albums. With Mark Ronson and Lily Allen on board for LP number three, it seems unlikely they'll be "doing a Radiohead" and ditching the mega-anthems. The question therefore is: do fans have the appetite for another disc of sugar-coated indie from the Leeds gang?

Lead single 'Never Miss A Beat' does represent an advancement of sorts, with some cheeky asides ("What do you want for tea? I want crisps") replacing their usual shout-along choruses and "nah-nah-nah" chants. The fuzzy mix of keyboards, bass and scrawled guitar isn't as instant or radio-friendly as 'Ruby', but it rewards repeated listens. Still, refreshing as it is to hear them try something new, there's a disappointing lack of sparkle from the Kaisers' first Ronson collaboration.

They know how to right a cracking pop tune and this is another tremendous example. Have the people who slag them off ever been to a gig? Very few bands can match them i a live context oasis, radiohead perhaps.
