Peter reminds me of old comedian Stanley Baxter.Unlike Ross&Brand Who take the mickey out of real people he makes fun of fictitious characters. hurting no one, great fun record.

Better than that other manufactured rubbish that the X Factor contestants release!

"At what point did Peter Kay ever say it was for Charity?" I take it then that the pole dancers injured in the line of duty won't see a penny of this then :D

This song doesn't spoof the Xfactor, etc., it pay them all a wonderful tribute. The slow start, the key change, the bit where the glitter comes down... this (and the shows themselves) aren't music, they are entertainment - just like Strictly isn't really ballroom dancing. Simon Cowell created the music version of WWE wrestling and their "sports entertainment" concept. Wrestling fans don't like it any less because it is not real, and Xfactor fans love all the cheese and the back stories and the key changes (ideally whilst standing up). Remember Cowell brought us Robson and Jerome and those C4 puppets... don't take it seriously, and certainly don't feel offended that Peter Kay takes the mick out of it. It is all just innocent good fun!

I don't get why people think that this song "should be for charity". Do Peter Kay and Gary Barlow not have the right to get money out of this brilliant creation? People don't suggest that Peter Kay should give the income from his stand-ups to charity, so why should it be any different with his music? Anyway, the song is great! I'm not giving it all 5, though, as it doesn't sound as funny after the first few listens.

Completely agree with Steve (Below) It will just S**t all over the X factor winners song this christmas. I am so glad the the original judges made a comeback and saw an opportunity to take the mickey out of the X Factor. It's about time. Also, The Winners Song is a million times better than any other winners song I have heard in years. This is because it was written by Gary Barlow. A Songwriter with serious Talent.

NO-ONE ever said it was for charity, and why should it be? I fail to see why! and 'Leon' whoever he is has as ingle out the same time, what difference does that make? if it's any good he will sell it, if not he won't! So based on the charity argument, one assumes all artists/groups will be recording for 'charity only now? No ? I didn't think so! Mr Kay has shown the X Factor for what it is, a vehicle to take the p*** out of people in the auditions, then 'create' a one hit wonder by the end of the series, so that rakes in loads of money for Mr Cowell and the rest ! and of course the Christmas No1 is now a total waste of space!

Bree London on October 21st, 2008
I think it's great and just shows how X factor is a big joke. It takes a Christmas number 1 every year and Im sick of it. The only good we've gotten out of X factor is Leona Lewis the rest are a waste of time. I liked Shane Ward but he isn't much of a singer. Thats exactly what we need to show these people up. Well done.

At what point did Peter Kay ever say it was for Charity? More to the point, why should it be for charity any more than Leon's single or The Beatles? I wonder if Pink is equally cruel to bring out a popular song the same week as Leon Jackson (who'll we'll probably never hear of again after 2008)? Some people are clutching at straws I feel in order to knock Kay. In my opinion it was a brilliant job of mockery and without being overly tacky. Peter Kay reigns supreme in comedy and the charts!
omg on October 20th, 2008
omg that song is soooooooooooo sad!!!!!! how did it do so well in the charts??????? who are the sad acts who buy and listen to it? especially when its not even for charity!

20th October 2008 on October 20th, 2008
He has deceived the public as everyone thought it was for charity, when infact he is just making money out of poking fun at a show, which whether you like it or not, does produce talent. I do have a sense of humour, but how can anyone find that childish attempt at comedy funny? I also think that it is cruel to bring out this 'song' at the same time as last years x factor winner's new single, therefore narrowing his chances of doing well in the charts. Leon's newly released single is his seroius attempt at making a career, why does someone who already has a career have to ruin the chances of others. I believe that this comeback of Peter Kay's has just shown him up for what he really is. I used to be a fan of him, but not anymore. I think that this has not done him any favours.

What a great song
Liz - Suffolk on October 20th, 2008
I did think that he has deceived the public as we all thought it was for charity. He has done one every year so thought this was. Otherwise wouldn't have bought it. Love Peter Kay but feel a bit let down.
Pat, Liverpool on October 19th, 2008
Brilliant. Kay got everything right down to the smallest detail. Geraldine is a treasure - I love the video too. Applause too for Two Up Two Down - their 'b' side on the CD is a fabulous version too. Such a pity we didn't get to hear R Wayne's version though.
Alice UK on October 19th, 2008
LOL, I don't know how people like westlife and all these other made for TV acts can take themselves seriously when this is happening! Peter Kaye and Gary Barlow have written a hilarious song which wouldn't sound out of place on a Leona Lewis album. The funniest fact is it beat the winner from last year's x factor in the charts this week. Well done. PS: The key change at the end had me rolling around on the floor with laughter. I even predicted they might do that!
Jim, Durham on October 19th, 2008
HAHAHAHA I hope it beats leon's song!!! Thankyou Geraldine!

Sorry, although a dedicated former Peter Kay fan, who adored Phoenix Nights, I cannot see how anybody enjoyed this latest offering. Either Peter has lost his comical genius or the brilliant scripting of Phoenix Nights was mainly due to his talented co-writers (who, it is rumoured Peter refuses to credit). I was so looking forward to seeing this show as was hugely disappointed. I did stick with the programme, believing that it had to get better as it was so weak. Unfortunately, it didn't. All those who enjoyed the show either don't know what Peter has done in the past or, more likely, feel that they have to find him funny. Sorry, Peter, did love you, but thought your four year absence from our screens would result in something better than this.

tina, lancashire on October 18th, 2008
I loved the show, but just found out that the single isnt even for charity. They're doing exactly the same thing as what simon cowell's doing really. Not really a song I want to listen to in a few years time, so wont be buying.
GAVSTAR, BRIGHTON on October 18th, 2008

i'm sorry 3 stars?! what? i know it's a p!ss take but come on, it's supposed to be awful and it is and so is peter kay. 3 stars? are you insane? don't be so stupid.

peter kay good song bad show bad the best bit was when the man on channel 4 said now on 4

allan, London on October 17th, 2008
I do have to agree with the reviewer, X-Factor doesn't take it's self too seriously anyway, so i don't know if the show was any funnier than the real thing. I thought it was pretty lazy and smug to be fair. It felt like Scary Movie re-creating Scream. Just re-shooting the show whilst smirking is not funny. This song didn't need to be so parody, as Shayne Wards "thats my goal" is parody enough'. ("you know my story, you know where iv come from" ect ect). Anyway, when it does get to number 1, all it will show is that a 2 hour prime time tv show/advert for a song will get it to the top of the charts, regardless of quality. But we know this anyway, it happens every xmas. The worst think is, iv was really hoping peter key had somthing good left in him, but he should go away for another 3 years and re-think somthing else, this wasn't it. Or, i just don't get it.

Fred, West Midlands on October 16th, 2008
The reason it sounds a bit like Take That is probably because Gary Barlow had a hand in writing the song and working on the show. Great send up.
Tedd from Kent on October 16th, 2008
Haven't laughed so much in ages. Knocks spots off the X factor and so brilliantly sent up. This has to be a hit. Bring back the good old British humour. We certainly need cheering up. Well done to Geraldine.
Kerry,Plymouth on October 16th, 2008
I love this song, absloutely brillant, but does anyone else think that this song sounds a bit like Take That's I'd wait for life song-which by the way is another good song. Plus the winners song should be No.1.
Eric, Bristol on October 16th, 2008
Absloutely loved the show - a real scream! Surely The Winners Song is set to be the Xmas number one for 2008? It'd make a change from the overhyped, soon to be released X-factor winner's single any way (Leona Lewis is the only exception cos she's beautiful and genuinely talented!)!!
Rachel, York on October 14th, 2008
Brilliant! Very catchy and funny. I think it's hilarious that it could pass for "the real thing" if you didn't know who it was by!
Simon, London on October 14th, 2008
If this gets to number 1 it might finally end the mockery which is the ridiculous pile of tripe which is the X Factor
Fee - Oldham on October 13th, 2008
Absolutely fantastic, saw the video with the single this morning on LTV Today and just couldn't stop laughing, very, very funny.
