Leona Lewis: 'Forgive Me'

They may have varied in quality - from dull ('A Moment Like This') to decent ('Better In Time') to dazzling ('Bleeding Love') - but each of Leona Lewis's hits thus far has been a ballad. It's a nice change, therefore, to hear her upping the tempo for single number four.

'Forgive Me', co-written and produced by Akon, sounds like something Whitney Houston could have recorded in the late-eighties - specifically, it sounds a bit like 'I'm Your Baby Tonight'. The chorus is catchy enough, and Lewis certainly sounds good, but the adultery-themed lyrics are a poor match for the sweet, unassuming Hackney girl. "If his love don't pass the test," she sings, "I gotta get it from someone else." Now, do you believe her?
