Miley Cyrus: '7 Things'

Miley Cyrus has one hell of a resume for a 15-year-old. Having shot to fame in Disney Channel phenom Hannah Montana, Cyrus has twice reached number one on the US albums chart, pulled off a 69-date arena tour and earned a place on a Forbes "most powerful" list. Her current album, Breakout, is as its title suggests her first tentative step towards creating a more grown-up sound.

'7 Things', its second single, finds Cyrus grappling with the pain of a recent break-up. She begins by listing seven things she hates about her ex - is this a dig at Nick Jonas? - before describing another seven she likes. With a backdrop of rocky guitars behind her, Cyrus does succeed in moving away from the Hannah Montana sound, but she's perhaps trying a bit too hard to be credible here. Instead of crafting an Avril-style pop stomper, she's wound up with something that sounds like an Ashlee Simpson B-side.

'7 Things' is by no means a 2-star song. It's catchy, upbeat, and doesn't take itself too seriously. This is modern pop music at it's best.

I actually quite like this song! I still am not the the biggest fan of her voice, but each to their own. I think she is a very talented girl, and if she keeps turning out tracks like this she's going to continue to do well.

i don't mind Milry Cyrus, i think her voice is great and her music is ok! but....i hate this song and especially the music video because this is a 15 year old kid who stereotypically should just be enjoying life but here is Miley trying to be emotional by singing a song about a break up, its not right! i don't want to sound too strict but all i'm saying is that maybe she should wait a few years to take her music seriously and she should just focus on hannah montanna :D
