Alexandra Burke: 'Hallelujah'
Hallelujah indeed! Alexandra Burke may not be the most unique of propositions, but she was the rightful winner of this year's X Factor - a good mover, at least eight times as charismatic as Leon Jackson and enough of a singer not to embarrass herself next to Beyoncé. Now, having vanquished the boyband who were never quite as good as we wanted them to be and the young Irish lad the whole country's calling "Eggnog", she's saddled with a winner's song that was doubtless intended for Diana Vickers.

Against the odds, however, this is the most listenable X Factor single yet. Nobody really needs to hear another version of 'Hallelujah', but Burke sings it very nicely indeed and the inevitable gospel choir actually highlights the biblical references in Leonard Cohen's lyrics. Fans of the Jeff Buckley reading will probably find this horribly tinselly in comparison, but they'd do well to remember that Simon Cowell currently has something truly heinous locked in his bottom drawer - the Eoghan Quigg version.

this version is so ridiculously awful that it shouldn't even be allowed to chart. Alexandra's own songs are much better than this.

The song is sh**e. Is this the best they coul;d come up with. I love Alexandra though she's the best singer to ever come off of one of these "talent" TV shows. Give her some great new songs to sing and stop giving her crap rubbish.

People in this country seem to buy any crap they see on the TV! X factor is total plebdazzle, the audio is way over compressed to be louder than anything else on TV (the old radio trick), It attracts millions of gawkers who have no idea that if they only turned off the set and went to a real music venue they could experience something far greater than Simon Cowells neverending quest for money! This kind of over produced scam for ripping off the public epitomises everything that sucks about the music industry, who the hell is going to be playing this in 20 years time? it's not even vinyl, it exists on hard drives and they don't last, they get replaced when the computer wears out! Keep music live and stop buying into this obvious fly by night, flash in the pan, here today gone tomorrow, only in it for the money crappola!

she was terrible man! get a life. who needs another mariah carey, she sucks anyway! yeah she's got a big voice and all that but on a scale of originality she scores... um what was that? 0.000000000000001. her voice is 2 deep as well, it's just not my cup of tea. another few singles of hers and she'll be a total flop trust me. she's just another copy of leona but not even as good. (not saying that leona is good because have you HEARD her single "run"? she slaughtered it, snow patrol are way better.) ok no offence to any one so please dont take it the wrong way, it's just my opinion and if you don't like it, don't read it! ps. i agree with you peeps saying about the warbling and lack of emotion. so true!!

This version of the wonderful, spellbinding piece of music, was completely devoid of any discernible heart or soul and while it hasn't in the slightest bit ruined the musical landscape and poignant message of the original, (and obviously not discrediting Jeff Buckley's stunningly crafted and haunting rendition) it has been the catalyst for the total erosion of my already infinitesimal sympathy for todays musical stratosphere and the endless barrage of soulless, functional "popstars", or whatever the fuck that means. Overblown, unnecessarily opulent, and totally over-produced, like most of the past 5 years' commercially orientated musical output. Musically dank, stale, and bereft of all palpable life in my honest opinion. Oh and the fact that a musical entity sells a shitload of records and makes a shitload of cash, does not imply that the music has any tangible quality, it just sends an all too familiar message to me and to all people who approach music as a way of life, that the majority of the British Public, I dare say, the global public, have no conception of what they're missing, when they are too narrowminded and insular to have it in their heads that this unmitigated travesty of a song is the be all and end all of music. God people, music has so much more to give for those who are inclined to acknowledge. Everyone, open your minds and let your minds eye pave the eye for your musical rehabilitation

she is really bad!! how on earth did she win I say go on DIANA!! I mean alexandra is all monotone whilst leona lewis has such a good range. I mean the version of alexandras is so plastic and unauthentic. Go LEONA and DIANA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

she sang it terribly; there's no need to warble like! and did anyone realise how some weeks she sang parts of her songs craply; yet the judges wouldn't point it out. but you knew if a different act had made the mistake; they would have. alexandra killed the song; and every time she comes on the radio i have to rush on my laptop to put diana singing it on instead. boo!

I LIKE THIS SONG!! there i said it i think that alex's husky mezzo soprano voice worked with this song! personally i wouldn't have chosen it for her (woulda picked an aretha song) and she melismates a bit too much in the second verse. but overall it's a good song!

Shaz. It is your preception of the song, that she doesn't sing it with emotion. In my view she gives it plenty of emotion, however your view, neither mine are facts, just points of view.

Hmm its ok. But she doesn't make this song sound emotional, which it should be.
