If anyone knows about being famous in late-noughties Britain, it's Lily Allen. Over the last seven days she's supposed to have condoned drug use, apparently threatened to post Katy Perry's phone number online and reportedly bagged a role as the new Dr Who assistant. It's no surprise, therefore, that her fame-themed comeback single is bang on the money.

'The Fear' finds her parodying the tawdry ambitions of today's Z-list celebs with a steady supply of sharp couplets. "I want loads of clothes and a f***load of diamonds," she deadpans, "I heard people die while they're trying to find them". Musically she adopts a more mature electropop sound here, but her gift for a memorable melody remains, making this a welcome reminder of why she became famous in the first place. Yes, she's gobby and her chatshow wasn't much cop, but Lily Allen's still got a knack for making smart, relevant, affecting pop music.

Three words for this song "load of s**t". Lilly Allen is a toad and is uglier than a goblin. Why the UK is wasting their time listening to this crap just proves that people in the UK have no good taste in music. Lilly go get a job singing for little girls.

Wow! Her lyrics are like, so deep and her voice is,yeah, POWERFUL! And the swearing makes the tune cutting edge and the message is really really anti-establishment because she knows how bad fame is... and I really need my medication now, NURSE! PLEASE!

Has no one else picked up on the irony of talent free Lily who is, lets face it mostly famous for being Keith Allen's daughter and shagging his elderly friends 'writing' a song about fame hungry wanabees with er no talent? A distinctly average song but she deserves audacity points for releasing something so clearly dripping with hypocrisy.

It's a sign that I'm getting older (I'm 22) that I'm getting irritated by slightly unnecessary swearing and the lyric of 'everything's cool as long as im getting finner...' - I don't consider Lily to be a voice of the common people, despite her out spoken, tabloid friendly fodder. That said, The Fear is a fine track - commercial, but credible at the same time.

Absolutely love it - best thing she's ever done by a mile. And she looks so cute in the video (deceptive I know!)

Really like it. Its very different from last album an I wasnt really expecting to like her new stuff because i heard it has an indie influence but this song is amazing and it'll more than likely get to no 1

Excellent well produced song. The video is one of the best I've seen in years and has some hot boys in it too :)

Yeah, it's a catchy track. But credit goes to the production team for that, not Lily Allen. And being a catchy tune doesn't make it good. The fact is, she can't sing at all and is hugely overrated. I can't understand how she ever became famous in the first place. Throwaway pop.
