Maria stands out from the current crop of hotly-tipped female singers because rather than electropop or indie, her roots are in dirty seventies punk - there's not a glitterball or synth in sight here. Her twitchy, inebriated-sounding vocals on 'Oh My God' recall Courtney Love and PJ Harvey, while her lyrics ("Oh my god! Oh you think I'm in control") touch on paranoia, self-doubt and anger. Scuzzier than a kebab joint in Southend, this is a thoroughly enjoyable two-and-a-half-minutes of punky-pop frolics.
