Beyoncé: 'Single Ladies'

Ladies and gentlemen, a brief recap. Beyoncé's current album features two distinct discs - one of supposedly revealing ballads, the other of sexier, sassier fare. In the US she trailed the album with two separate singles - one from each side - but things were played more cautiously over here. We got the classic balladry of 'If I Were A Boy', but not the club-pop throb of 'Single Ladies'.

Until now. 'Single Ladies' has proved so popular, cracking the top ten on downloads from the album, that it's been granted an official release - as a download-only single. This may mean very little in practice, but it's nice that 'Single Ladies' is now a bona fide chart missile because it's a bit of a corker. Beyoncé serves up lashings of attitude, Tricky and The-Dream's production is as lean and sinewy as an Olympic swimmer and the beats just don't quit. Of course, you've known all this for aaages, right?
