Iglu & Hartly: 'Violent & Young'

'& Then Boom' LP

If nothing else, Iglu & Hartly know how to push people's buttons. NME described their debut album as an "abomination informed by all the most disgusting musical faux pas of the past 20 years", while The Times feared their success with debut single 'In This City' could bring about "a second Vanilla Ice-age". Harsh criticisms these may be, but judging by this follow-up track, they aren't too wide of the mark.

'Violent & Young' blends together the musical stylings of easily-forgotten rap-rockers Crazy Town, the pre-Blood Sugar funky workouts of Chili Peppers and some of the worst rapping since PJ and Duncan changed their names to Ant and Dec ("I think I'm 'bout to blow, hit me here, then you know"). Throw the group's nasal West Coast accents and some seriously chintzy production into the mix and the result is a deadly cocktail of musical torture. The only positive? This has got to be the sound of the last nail being hammered into the rap-rock/nu-metal coffin.
