Kelly Clarkson: 'My Life Would Suck Without You'
Kelly Clarkson's last album, 2007's My December, was ballsy, largely self-written and not exactly stuffed with singalong choruses. It also sold nine million fewer copies than 2004's Breakaway. Clarkson's response? To launch her comeback with a single written by Max Martin and Dr Luke, the architects of Breakaway's biggest hit 'Since U Been Gone'.

Unsurprisingly, 'My Life Would Suck With You' finds Clarkson returning wholeheartedly to the bubblegum rock sound of Breakaway - the rhythm guitar intro even recalls that of 'Since U Been Gone'. It's as original as shoving a slither of cheese between two slices of bread and calling it lunch, and the lyrics are a bit juvenile for the 26-year-old Clarkson, but these quibbles melt away when the heroically catchy chorus arrives. Best of all, you come away thinking that no-one else could have sung that heroically catchy chorus quite as well as Kelly Clarkson.
