David Archuleta: 'Crush'
For those of you who don't find yourselves on ITV2 very often, here's a handy summary. David Archuleta, a fresh-faced 18-year-old from Utah, finished second on the last season of American Idol. He's roughly as threatening as Zac Efron in a Big Bird costume. Oh, and his rendition of 'Angels' proved so popular with Idol viewers that he recorded it for his album.

Not unsurprisingly, his debut single is neither a bolshy rock anthem nor a frantic club banger. 'Crush' is a well-crafted midtempo pop song with teen romance lyrics and a radio-friendly chorus that seems to get better with every spin. Archuleta, meanwhile, acquits himself admirably, showing off a nifty falsetto and a similar brand of easy charm to fellow Idol alumnus Jordin Sparks. The result? Well, "safe, solid and likeable" pretty much nails it.

I think Crush is a really good song. Especially for a debut single, it's a very smart move, one to soar the charts as those of the other tween crooners. Hopefully the general public are able to pick up on the fact that unlike many tween crooners who generally dont really have much substance, or can't particularly sing very well, completely content with oversynthesized and overproduced music drowning out their voices, David Archuleta, in fact does have the voice of an angel (excuse the pun!). You can hear snippets of the "angelic" voice in crush, but more so in other songs off the debut album. If you really wanna hear his voice, youtube should do the trick, just type in David Archuleta Imagine, or Angels Tulsa, or Apologize, or Stand by Me, or I'll Be, oh the list goes on and on and on! :P

it is an okay song and his piano solo is brilliant. However i dont think he will be as successful as kelly clarkson or jordin sparks. He has a nice enough voice so i hope he does do well.

Throughout American Idol, I was convinced that David A was just getting the sympathy vote until his performances in the final when he actually outperformed eventual winner, David Cook. Crush similarly takes a while to warm to, but the lyrically unoriginal chorus becomes more infectious with each listen and the intricity of the melody is actually very charming. Whilst David Cook's rock momentum was temporarily hampered by a typical winners song, that seemed to be written with David A in mind, Archuleta may be the eventual winner from the last season of AI. With his smooth and soulful voice, and the right choice of material, he could join Kelly Clarkson and Jordin Sparks in the lonely club of Idol talent to break the UK

I first heard this song about 6 months ago and thought it was a pretty good track. It's not a head banging fast paced song but it's a perfect pop song. I got his album a while back and it is definitely worth geting. Not too fond of the Angels cover but it's an OK cover. The rest of the album is pretty good.
