Thecocknbullkid: 'I'm Not Sorry'
Who? OK, so it's a bit tricky to spell, but Thecocknbullkid is a fairly inspired name for a popstar: bold, provocative and more than a little odd. It sounds like it should belong to a drunk and rambling folkie guitar-strummer, but it's actually the stage name of Anita Blay, a 23-year-old Hackney lass who trades in electropop.

'I'm Not Sorry', a limited edition 7"/download release on trendy indie label Moshi Moshi, is a perfect introduction to her talents. The chorus is as sweet as the dust you find at the bottom of a bag of Haribo, but the lyrics, about "being a bit of a bitch and not feeling guilty", are refreshingly harsh. It's an endlessly captivating combination that suggests - no bull - Blay is one to keep a very close eye on.

There is something very interesting about Miss Blay. She's quite enigmatic. She's kept quite a low profile. She seems like a very simple girl. What I love about this is that there is an interesting journey with the melody (I would love an instrumental of it!) Her lyrics are very honest but not in a controversial manner. I hope more of her music is like this - that's IF she's given the opportunity. :-D
