Jack Allsopp isn't your typical popstar. Compared to the likes of Katy Perry and Lady GaGa, both seemingly intent on creating a post-modern, almost abstract interpretation of themselves, he comes across really rather ordinary - just Jack even. But following his critically-acclaimed second album Overtones, which reminded us on lead single 'Starz In Their Eyes' that we aren't all destined for Leona-style superstardom, he's now back and hoping to build on his initial success.

'Embers', the lead single from album number three, finds Jack attempting to bring some rationality to the confusion of modern life. Against an eerie, persistent orchestra of violins and a milieu of different vocal arrangements, he informs us that "through all of the devilish things we do... we are all embers from the same fire". Does it work? Well, it may not grab you fully on first listen, but this charming grower will soon make you smirk imagining that GaGa and Perry are actually no different from the lady behind the fryer in your local chippy.
