Jack Peñate: 'Tonight's Today'
Back in 2007 Jack Peñate was regularly touted as The Next Big Thing. He had pop tunes that acted as the meeting point for Wham! and noughties indie, knee-knockingly frantic live shows and connections with pretty much every hip muso within a mile radius of Shoreditch. Despite all of this, Peñate failed to make the jump from indie darling to mainstream star. This was due in the main to his lacklustre debut LP Matinée, which found the Londoner hopping across musical bandwagons quicker than a E4 Music presenter.

'Tonight's Today', Peñate's comeback track, goes some way to dealing with the faults of Matinée - thankfully he's stopped trying to cram 87 musical styles into each song. A hazy mix of afrobeat, handclaps and chanted vocals, this track will ring true with anyone who's ever been found guilty of partying a bit too hard. "I shuffle into the sunlight, a zombie roaming on the day," croons the singer, who clearly understands what it's like to knock back one too many ciders. He might not be as trendy as he once was, but don't write off the Blackheath boy just yet.
