Franz Ferdinand: 'No You Girls'

Franz Ferdinand started off wanting to make "music for girls to dance to", and over two LPs packed with indie disco floorfillers they did just that. For third album Tonight, the band promised fewer guitars and more electronics - a jump forward from their post-punk beginnings.

However, what makes 'No You Girls' surprising is that, well, it's not surprising in the slightest. It's all jagged guitars, big chord changes and dancefloor-friendly rhythms. There's a more detached air to the whole thing that evokes Lodger-era Bowie, but otherwise it's unmistakeably Franz. Fortunately though, it's Franz at their best, with catchy hooks and sharp boy-girl lyrics featuring a neat perspective shift in the last verse. The result? You may feel like you've heard this all before, but you won't mind hearing it again.
