Alex Roots: 'Fake'
Fresh-faced and not lacking in confidence, 16-year-old Alex Roots packed in her education last year to launch a bid for pop stardom. Having co-written her forthcoming album and attracted praise for her energetic live performances, she's now ready to release her debut single - and thankfully she's avoided the electropop route.

There's a hint of the Kim Wilde to it, but 'Fake' mostly sounds like an attempt to attract the Avril Lavigne-meets-Busted market with its punky-pop sound and attitude-packed lyrics. "You're acting like you're my best friend," she snarls, "but I can't trust anything that comes out of your mouth." The playground politics lyrics are a touch twee, but Roots makes up for it with her feisty vocals, suggesting she could be one to look out for in the coming months.
