Miley Cyrus: 'The Climb'

Over the last year or so, Miley Cyrus has worked hard to shed her tween-friendly Hannah Montana image, choosing instead to mould a more grown up and mature persona. '7 Things' focused on the difficulties of a relationship ending, while the follow-up 'Fly On The Wall' addressed the paparazzi's intrusion into her life. Both may have partly succeeded in painting the 16-year-old as a more credible type of popstar, but this latest offering finds her in more familiar territory.

'The Climb' is taken from the Hannah Montana: The Movie soundtrack, so it's no surprise that it deals with issues relevant to her onscreen character. "I may not know it, but these are the moments that I'm going remember most," Cyrus sings on this perfectly inoffensive but fairly bland soft rock ballad. It's filled with maudlin truisms - "It's always going to be an uphill battle", "Sometimes I'm going to have to lose" - about personal growth and inner development, but Cyrus doesn't entirely convince us that she's faced these struggles herself.

Damp and dreary. It might pass as an OK pop song if it was given to someone else, but Miley's voice is just atrocious in this.

This is really nothing special, she sounds very nasal when singing this, ballads are not Miley's strong point. It is also the wrong subject for her to sing about, Miley is the last person who should sing a song about how hard life can be. Please go back to making songs like See You Again and Fly on the Wall.

This is the worst song ever written! Ever! And just to telll you all; I'm not a Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana-hater, in fact I actuallly loves the series and got extremly dissapointed of the movie - and this dreadful and awful song didn't saved the movie, it actually made it worse. This song shouldn't ever been made, the melody is really depressing.

I really like this song and as for anyone who is comparing her to lots of different singers, that is stupid because she has a totally different singing style, lots of people like this song, she is only 16 and she has achieved loads for her age. This is a catchy and great hit, and if you anyone can't hear that then you must be tone deaf coz she sure as hell isn't. Miley deserves this to be a really successful song!!!!

I was actually shocked when I realised this song was sung by Miley Cyrus...really not a fan of this little rich girl trying to make out she's soo mature for her age, but can't fault this song.

I have to say, i'm really not a Miley Cyrus fan, 7 things was alright but I found Fly On The Wall awful to be honest. However, The CLimb is by far, her best song yet. Yes it has some lyrics that are quite cheesy but the vocals make you gloss that over. This deserves to be in the top 10!

errm sorry don't really know what you're getting at there may from london!! but if ure hinting that i'm 'following the crowd' then ure wrong!! i honestly do not like her and i think shes wayy overrated!! i mean this is my opinion of her and i'm not trying to change anyone else's if thats what it seems with my previous comment!!
