Green Day: 'Know Your Enemy'

Opening with what appears to be drummer Tré Cool walloping his kit with a monkey wrench, comeback tracks don't come much more blunt and to the point than this. Featuring plenty of "ah-woah-ah-woah" Billie Joe vocals to get the stadiums swaying and with lyrics so politically simplistic your 12-year-old niece could understand them ("Don't be blinded by the lies", "silence is the enemy") this has 'monster chart hit' oozing out of every bludgeoned guitar chord. A fearsome return which bodes well for angry, mosh-happy teens everywhere.

Oh wait, a politically charged song about ignoring what's on TV called Know Your Enemy? I thought Rage Against the Machine pulled that off in 1992...

When I first heard this song, I was a tad sceptical..but it's such a huge grower, can't get it out of my head at this point.

Seriously dull and repetative. Lyrics are as hackneyed as you get in pop rock music. All the psuedo-political teeny rebellion rubbish is just plain embarassing for a band who members are fast approaching 40.

I just listened to this on tv and I have to say... it's awful. It's thr SAME guitar riff throughout the WHOLE song (except the bridge). It's not even worthy of being funny! It's one of the worst songs I've heard. When was the last time someone wrote a song like 'he man woman hater' by extreme? Why can't they at least make the riff half-decent. Playing guitar isn't about getting a repetative piece of rubbish stuck in your head that you wish wasn't there - it's about melting people's faces off with pure skill and a decent tone
