Marmaduke Duke: 'Rubber Lover'

Now how's this as an early contender for most unlikely hit of the year. It's performed by an obscure Biffy Clyro side-project whose members, when in Marmaduke Duke mode, call themselves "The Dragon" and "The Atmosphere". It runs to the not terribly meaty length of one minute and 59 seconds. Oh, and it's about a guy getting "funky" with his blow-up doll.

And yet, 'Rubber Lover' has already become a bit of a radio favourite, mainly because it's very catchy indeed. To call it slight almost goes without saying, and its charms are likely to wear off as the good weather fades, but it's hard to take against this bright and breezy indie-pop tune. Like Barbara Windsor in her Carry On days, it's compact, cheeky and perfectly-formed.
