Jade Ewen: 'It's My Time'

If you're going to select your Eurovision hopeful via an X Factor-style talent contest, you're probably going to end up with an X Factor-style singer. Step forward Jade Ewen, a mighty-lunged showbiz trouper whose CV includes everything from West End shows to The Bill to a stint in a flop girlband.

Equally, if you're going to ask Andrew Lloyd Webber and Diane Warren to write a song for your X Factor-style talent contest, you're probably going to end up with something that sounds like an X Factor winner's song crossed with a show tune. "I've got the will, I've earned the right," croons Ewen before the bombast begins, "to show you it's my time tonight". Overblown, old-fashioned and shamelessly sentimental, this could be just what Eurovision ordered.

Not a bad melody but very unimaginative lyrics by Dianne Warren who is supposed to be such an experienced lyricist with a proven track record of success . Jade is NOT a good singer - she just bawls her head off or whispers in keeping with many singers of this boring style today . The louder you yell it is supposed to be better - screaming all over the melody line up and down instead of holding your notes does not give some kind of soul feeling and atmosphere - passion etc - it is just ugly and sickening and the sooner songs were sung properly the better . This style is the Mariah Carey syndrome and it stinks .

i love this singer but the song is PAINFULL, she sings "its my time" about 1000 times in like three minutes, way too much, it seems like webber couldnt be bothered writing a song and just wrote the title afew times

There is no doubt that she sings it extremely well; she is a very talented singer. I hate the song though, it's just Xfactor - ish. Very boring, I'm afraid.

Douze Points - Finally The United Kingdom is back, and ready to show the rest of Europe we mean business. Yes the song may sound slighty dated, but remember this is Eurovision what may sound slightly dated in once country could be the in thing in another. After see her 2 rehersals on You Tube, in Moscow, I think this will be once to watch on 16th - Show them what you got Jade. Your a star x

As a Eurovision song, it stands up as far better than any recent entries but the choice of wording it like an x Factor winners song was a bad choice. It's really boring and forgettable, just like every one of the X Factor winner songs. The actual music of it is beautiful and I only wish the words were better. Her voice is nice and so hopefully it will at least keep us away from nil points.

The song is really boring... reminds me of the song which won for Serbia 2 years ago! 12 points from Ukraine definately (they play this song on the radio all the time!), but I will not vote for her... Spain's contestant is far classier!

i think shes got real talent but come on that song is just mad!! i mean shes what twenty-something and that song sounds like it was writtent in 1920-something!!! its stupid i hate the way its been composed like some west end tune!! she is NOT gonna win with that song!! definitely not it'll be at the bottom of the board once again!! and none of it her fault either all that crappy songs fault!!

Jade is a lot better than the song - she's beautiful and has that incredible voice. She deserves better than this song. But it should bring us back a smidge of glory at Eurovision.

Great song, great composer and writer, great singer. Hope it does well come May 16th, should be the first time in a while that we're not in the bottom 5! I'd say this song gets us in the top 15 although I'm rooting for a win!! PS: Germany's song 'Alex Sings Oscar Swings - Miss Kiss Kiss Bang' is the best this year IMO and I will be voting for Germany.

You must be having a laugh, 3 stars? More like 5 considering some of the rave reviews you give to not-very good singles. This is a very strong Eurovision entry and Jade came across as a really talented and nice girl on the Making your mind up show. Much better than other twaddle circulating the charts. The video is great too.
