Gary Go: 'Open Arms'
If you were oddly inclined to dabble in a scientific experiment establishing the centre point between bland Irish balladeers The Script and those mighty fine purveyors of indie mediocrity Snow Patrol, you'd probably end up with a Gary Go-shaped test tube. Your reward for your endeavours? A nerdish-looking singer whose passion and understanding for the mechanics of music has drained his songs of any final drips of soul.

As with debut single 'Wonderful', this features a hefty chorus, an impressive key-change and some suitably inane lyrics ("I gotta look myself in the eye and say everything's going to be alright!"), all of which make it perfect TV montage fodder. But sadly the result is rather less than the sum of its parts. Like a Cadbury's Creme Egg after someone's eaten the gooey centre, 'Open Arms' is mechanical pop with all the fun sucked out.
