Paolo Nutini: 'Candy'

He may have been discovered performing as a warm-up act for failed Fame Academy winner David Sneddon, but with the release of his debut album These Streets in 2006, Paolo Nutini was hailed as one of the nation's brightest young talents. One million record sales later and having toured the globe extensively, Nutini is hoping that his follow-up record Sunny Side Up will enjoy the same reception.

'Candy', the album's lead single, continues in the same guitar-strumming, middle-of-the-road vein as his previous offerings. Nutini's soft, mournful vocals give him a greater appeal than some of his contemporaries, and this homage to country music certainly feels heartfelt, but there's little to get excited about here. At the tender of age of 22, you could be forgiven for hoping he'd try something a bit riskier with his music. Instead of attracting a deluge of hip youngsters, 'Candy' is likely to appeal to a coach-load of OAPs off to enjoy a day at Scarborough beach.

I think Paolo is still appealing to the "hip youngsters" as i highly doubt it will be OAPs who are going to see him on his sold out tour this month.
