Marina & The Diamonds: 'The Crown Jewels (EP)'
"Quirky" is a horribly over-used word, one that tends to make you think of Phoebe from Friends or ethnic bangles on a Camden market stall, but it's pretty apt when describing Marina & The Diamonds. Is it a band? No, it's an elastic-voiced singer-songwriter from London who's being tipped for big things - she's Marina; her fans, apparently, are The Diamonds.

This four-track EP, her second release after a one-off single earlier this year, is a terrific introduction to Marina's spirited piano pop. 'I Am Not A Robot' deals with self-acceptance in an original, interesting way, 'Seventeen' sees her grapple with a boyfriend who has "all the sensibilities of an upper-class guy", and 'Simplify' is a heartfelt plea for a less complicated life. A gleaming electro remix of 'Robot' rounds things off. Each of these songs is blessed with an instant pop chorus and oodles of charm, suggesting Marina's brand of quirkiness is one lots of people could find themselves falling for.
