Linkin Park: 'New Divide'
Few would have predicted back in 2000 that Linkin Park would shift an incredible 24 million copies of their debut album Hybrid Theory. Their take on nu metal may have been catchy and endearingly swear-free, but fewer still would have guessed they'd still be chugging away nearly ten years later. In that time, the hip-hop influences and Mike Shinoda's rapping have faded from their sound, leaving Linkin Park as a sleek "alternative" rock band churning out riff-heavy, passion-lite slabs of angst.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, they've also become film director Michael Bay's band of choice. After providing the stodgy 'What I've Done' for his first Transformers movie, 'New Divide' is offered up as the theme song for its blockbuster sequel Revenge Of The Fallen. By all accounts, it's a robotic stomp through the motions without any real substance - and I'm told that the movie has been subject to some less than glowing notices as well. A soulless by-numbers arena rock dirge that's only slightly redeemed by the hilarity of its portentous lyrics.
