Another year, another side-project for the ever-prolific Jack White. This time he's on drums, with The Raconteurs' Jack Lawrence again on bass, Dean Fertita of Queens Of The Stone Age on guitar and The Kills' Alison Mosshart taking up the slack on vocals. Supergroups, though, are always a slightly terrifying proposition, with the band members' individual talents often getting smothered by ego. Thankfully, no-one seems to have told The Dead Weather this, and they've crafted a single that instantly pummels its way into your skull.

A collision of crunchy Black Sabbath guitar riffs, powerhouse drumming and Mosshart's screeching vocals, one play of 'Treat Me Like Your Mother' leaves you feeling completely bruised and battered. And, just when you think you might catch a gasp of air, a Rage Against The Machine-style breakdown smashes in to keep you on your toes. The result? A fantastic Freudian racket that kicks the hell out of 99% of everything else released this year.

But then again, my opinion counts for very little at all :)

'kicks the hell out of 99% of everything else released this year' is that trying to say that this song is exceptionally good (4 stars not 5?), or that 99% of all the music released this year is bad? if you're pointing to the latter then i think that's very negative! there has been a lot of great music released this year! such negativity is depressing and not needed
