Square1 ft. Siobhan Donaghy: 'Styfling'
Siobhan Donaghy released one of 2007's best albums, a fairly audacious leftfield pop record called Ghosts that was filled with colossal choruses and lyrics about mental anguish and medical evacuation by helicopter. (Yes, really.) Sadly, after it stalled at #92 on the UK albums chart, Donaghy was dropped and, a stint in the West End production of Rent aside, she's been M.I.A. ever since.

Consequently, it's an unexpected treat to see 'Styfling' on the release schedules. A collaboration with knob-twiddling duo Square1, it was apparently recorded during the Ghosts sessions but didn't make the final tracklisting because it was too "different". That's as maybe, but this gorgeously mournful pop song - all Massive Attack-style beats, organ-like synths and overdubbed vocals - still has Donaghy written all over it. If you like 'Styfling', you'll absolutely love Ghosts.
