Preston: 'Dressed To Kill'

"I'm pretty aware that I have a long, arduous task to clear my name," Samuel Preston told DS recently. His Heat magazine romance with Chantelle Houghton, that bloody awful third Ordinary Boys album and his embarrassing Buzzcocks strop lost him roughly one million indie credibility points, dropping him to depths only Razorlight's Johnny Borrell has matched.

Two years on from his last Ordinary Boys single (the wretched 'I Luv U'), he's finally found the courage to resurface, but this is a very different Preston to the ska-loving, Fred Perry-wearing cheeky chappy of old. Using a sizable Siouxsie And The Banshees sample and a cheap vampire-themed video, he's remodelled himself as an electropop star. It's all very 2009 and it'd be easy to say something sneering about bandwagon-jumping, but 'Dressed To Kill' has enough neat pop hooks and Gothic vocals to make us intrigued about his upcoming solo album.
