Biffy Clyro: 'That Golden Rule'

An entertaining mess of facial hair, chunky riffs and absolutely giant choruses, Biffy Clyro are the most American-sounding band to come out of Scotland since, well, ever. Their back catalogue boasts track-after-track of post-hardcore / alternative rock in the vein of Foo Fighters, At The Drive-In and fellow Brits Lostprophets - and there's no wild diversion here.

But, like last year's top five smash 'Mountains', 'That Golden Rule' should endear Biffy to a broader audience without alienating the faithful. The momentum of the hi-energy verse is dampened slightly by the leaden chorus, but the track is salvaged by its surprising final two minutes - a clattering collision of pounding bass, drums, stop-start guitars and a piercing string solo that's as brilliant as it is ridiculous.

yeah it's a bit ironic that the chorus is less lively than the verses. but the last few minutes are immense, the song just explodes. it might be a bit overblown but it sounds fantastic and it's one of those musical moments that gets into your veins!
