Florence and the Machine: 'Drumming Song'

With the release of 'Drumming Song', the fourth single lifted from Lungs, her forward momentum looks set to continue. A darker and more brooding offering than 'Rabbit Heart', it's a case of drum as metaphor for love as Welch describes an unadulterated and impassioned love affair. "Louder than sirens, louder than bells, sweeter than heaven and hotter than hell," she wails with more enough power and passion to justify all the critical acclaim.

What a song and what a surprise not a single comment from the hordes of sheep who proclaim to have the best taste in music! But my obvious like for this song and Florence in general, I have to agree with an earlier comment and that is that there are other tracks just screaming out to be released. Cosmic Love, Dog Days and You've got the love all great pop dittys that are yearning for a release. especially Cosmic Love which is a song that makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand up and if they don't then well your either on cannabis and think 2pac shakur is relaxing music! Whilst Dog Days is a very jovial upbeat ditty which follows the Florence formula of lulls followed by increased percussion and a haunting voice. One word class!

I think it's a shame she's releasing this when Cosmic Love is just SCREAMING for a release! Alright song though.

Absolute nonsense. I loved Rabbit Heart. But she's just shouting and screaming in this. It acutally gave me a headache when i heard it on Radio 1.

i adore rabbit hear, but this is hideous and does not compare out all to rabbit heart. It's just noise in my mind, i can't help feeling this will be her third flooppped single

This song is great, in my opinion! I love the lyrics and the way it builds up to something just brilliant, as do a lot of Florence's songs. I disagree with some of the previous answerers - I think Florence has a great voice. I would much rather listen to voice which has it's imperfections than listen to a flawlessly autotuned voice - which there seems to be a lot of in the charts at the moment..

Brilliant song! So catchy, and I have to say Megs and James that I disagree-I love her voice!

This is definetly one of my favourite songs on the album. If this country actually liked proper music, then Florence would be number one, but unfortunately this will never happen, because they don't get nearly enough airplay as they deserve to. A brilliant band with a brilliant song, and really amazing lyrics. Talent all the way.

Easily one of my favourite songs of 2009. A simply immense track that slowly builds and just grows and grows into something that is really quite stunning. Florence's mesmerising voice shines through here. I know some people don't like her singing voice (?!?!), but I would much rather listen to Florence with her voice that has an endearing vulnerability about it, but also has an edge and is filled with emotion and feeling. Compare that with a number of female singers around at the moment with their technically faultless but totally emotionless voices, where they sound like they have swallowed autotune. For me there is absolutely no contest.

One of the best songs off the album, although many are IMO miles better, this is still a 4 star rating from me!

sorry people i'm with Megs on this girl! i just can't stand her voice, it grates on me so much and it's uncomfortable to listen to, especially live - she always sounds like she's out of breath and straining badly. and i am sick to death of Radio 1 playing her songs every hour of every day, with every dj ramming down our throats how 'amazing' and 'wonderful' she is. anyway this ain't the worst song in the world but i'm just not a fan of Florence.

Love this song! One of the songs that truly showcases her vocal talents and is a definate star of the future, hence her critical acclaim. I really hope this charts well!

Her voice is awful. I know people like variety in music these days but she can't even hold a note. She sounds like a cat being strangled. I'm really annoyed because she's been given critical acclaim which means she can't disappear anytime soon. I wish she would though!
