Jordin Sparks: 'S.O.S (Let The Music Play)'

Since winning the sixth season of American Idol back in 2007, Jordin Sparks has proved herself a worthy alumnus of the world's biggest talent show. She's part-responsible for one of the best duets in recent memory ('No Air'), demonstrated the vocal clout to raise a stadium roof ('Battlefield'), and now unleashes a dance-pop stomper to make Rihanna and Lady GaGa pause for thought.

From the grinding electro of the opening bars, it's clear that 'S.O.S (Let The Music Play)' is no sugary throwaway. Over a heady concoction of bombastic beats and swirling synths, Sparks shows her previously unseen fiery side ("Look in her eyes, she's mentally undressing him") as she launches into the Shannon-sampling hook. It's a bold and exciting departure from her usual ballads and one that shows there's more to Sparks than many originally thought.
