Empire Of The Sun: 'Walking On A Dream'
It seems highly appropriate for a group as eccentric as Aussie duo Empire Of The Sun that one of them should go AWOL for five months during the year that they were tipped to become major players. However, it wasn't rampant hedonism or tabloid intrusion that drove Nick Littlemore to abandon bandmate Luke Steele. According to Littlemore, he actually spent the time recording a new album with Elton John. It's the sort of bizarre revelation that made everyone get rather excited about the sci-fi pop act in the first place.

As activities within the band have been so strange of late, it's slightly disappointing that they've taken the rather conventional step of re-releasing their debut single. The "comic synths" and "blissful dance groove" we loved first time around remain in place and the track still sounds like a psychedelic soundtrack to the best computer game of all time. However, we can't help feeling a little disappointed that they didn't choose to release another track from their stunning and underrated debut album instead.

These guys know how to arrange a song. The vocals are well accompanied by the arrangements. It's just a shame that Nick Littlemore seems to have eloped, I really felt there was a bright future for this band!

I agree. "Standing on the shore" should have been a great choice. It also has a video. Guess they re-release singles to prove themselves those songs could sell as much as recent hits...
