Jay Sean ft. Lil Wayne: 'Down'
Jay Sean's UK track record to date isn't great. He's notched up two top ten singles in the past five years and reached number six with last year's My Own Way album, but never really made a significant dent in the public consciousness. Yet in a Natasha Bedingfield-style twist of fortune, the 28-year-old is proving more of a hit in America, where his latest single 'Down' has topped the charts and shifted over a million copies. Now he's hoping to be welcomed back to his homeland with open arms.

It isn't tricky to see why Sean's latest offering has done so well Stateside. With its Eurodance-meets-R&B beats and heavily-produced vocals, 'Down' is near-indistinguishable from much of the music that dominates the US airwaves. Giving it some extra bite, he's landed the help of top dog Lil Wayne - himself responsible for a US No.1 single and album - who delivers the undeniably trashy killer line: "Honestly, I'm down like the economy." The result is a perfectly serviceable slice of radio pop, but Sean still seems to lack the star quality that's always restricted his success over here.

If I have to be honest, if I was to compare this to any of his other singles they would win. This song has a more poppy edge to it, with simple lyrics, unfortunately echoed over and over again, to me there's too much simplicity in the lyrics, Jay Sean doesn't need to say Down over 20x in this song, it's just a waste of words, Lil' Wayne adds an r&b edge to the song, which clearly isn't enough to save it, him moving to US could signal him giving up and selling out.

YOU INSULT HIM, YOU GUYS don't deserve to be called BRITISH, SCREW YOU ALL..

God somebody shoot my ears off. Yet again we get that Rasta wannabe standing around going yeah yeah in a track and we have this plank Say Jean or whatever his name is going "Down, down, down" every iambic pentameter! Yeah this is class innit! If you like being gagged whilst having a sharp object prod up your jacksy then go head this song will be right down your alley!

Great song he does have start quality David, on October 29th, 2009
Hmm "lacks star quality", it is because he is not in the papers pictures falling out of clubs, going out with countless wannabe girls who will only write kiss and tells? the reason he did so well in the US is because its a great song. He needs to be supported more here by the press, Digital Spy need to spend more time on real artists instead of reporting on x factor everyday!!! this is a fab song and deserves to be number 1. David Balls your review is crap and is only your personal opinion!!!

An amazing song! I don't Lil Wayne a lot, but I'm glad he doesn't even ruin the song at all. Jay Sean should make more songs like this because he'll definitely get noticed a lot more over here in the UK.

What an absolute rubbish review, Jay sean lacks the star quality thats always restricted his success over here?!? I know Jay personally and he is such a nice guy and everything you could ask for in star. Whoever wrote this review lacks quality to write a decent review. Shame on you.

I like this song but I hate Lil Wayne on it. It sounds like a typical Akon song but better imo. Jay is looking hot.
