Mariah and 'I Want To Know What Love Is' seem like such a perfect fit, it's amazing it's taken her 19 years to get round to recording it. Journeyman Brit-rocker Mick Jones didn't exactly hold back on the schmaltzy, overwrought original, which hit the top spot in America and the UK back in 1984. With its corny lyrics, choir backing vocals and sweeping, jumbo jet-size chorus, it may as well have been written for Mimi.

It's more than a little disappointing, therefore, that her take on the Foreigner classic is so timid. The singer gives an understated performance with only a few piano flourishes and robotic beats as backing. When she does finally unleash her trademark whistle for the crescendo, it feels too calculated and sounds like a recording studio clip chucked on the end. Mariah has stripped away the much-loved ridiculousness and pomposity of the original, leaving a rather limp, lifeless number in its place.

I Loooooove Mariah Carey, she has amazing vocals, I love her version of this song best, however i'm not too sure of the video.. it could have been much better effort from hype williams. I got my copy of the album Memoirs yesterday it's AWESOME!!

what a load of rubbish saw her on x factor and so so bad. the song itself just sounds so outdated and bland she brings nothing to this classic. as for the video shocking some of the worst cgi i have seen. i say just go away mariah and save all our ears from bleeding

Watched her on X Factor last night and she murdered this song. And that awful screeching at the end! What was all that about? I have never understood why so many people rave about her when she is so hit and miss. More miss at the moment after last nights excruciating performance.

Horrendous song. She can't sing live, does the worse miming ever and people believe she's still one of the best female singers ever! And nineteen years later, Mariah is still here. Yawn. Time to move over, Mariah! You can't match up to Leona now.

Re: Live of this song - Actually she can't hit it live. Watch her sing this in the italian X Factor, and it's obvious (if you've already listened to the song) that she's singing with prerecorded lines of the song. FTR: I'm not saying it's bad that she lip syncs. What I'm tryin to point out here is that her whistle when it's live and the high notes are all fake. Though I kinda like the song because it's catchy. But I think she doesn't sound as happy or confident or self assured with this song. There's a bit of blandness in the song. Nevertheless, I'll give it 3 stars for the effort.

Please will the almighty one stop this ridiculousness. What has the world done to deserve such monstrosity. I promise I will recycle more and switch off the standby button. Just please don't kill the classics, I beg, I pray and even pledge my eco-warrior ego to you almighty lord. Forgive me for I have sinned but please refrain from punishment such as this!

Please don't kill all our classics! It started with Whitney killing I'll always love you (which everybody still thinks is her song) and it just goes on and on, and gets worse and worse, are there no original song

I expected this to be a perfect fit in the same way Without You and I'll Be There were great cover versions by Mariah. Unfortunately this cover is a total let down and is tainted by the same dullness that characterizes most of Mariah's music since the E=MC2 album. She needs a complete style makeover of her vocals, her music production and her image before she will ever get back to Vision of Love or even We Belong Together quality. Sad because she seems like a nice person as well as being a superstar.

This is not about her voice, even though she has covered a song, everyone does. saying that i think its a terrible song, i never like the original and i can see that she is going to become a laughing stock. E=mc2 was good in my opinion, i loved touch my body and i stay in love, bye bye was also good as well. But these 2 singles this one and obessed which only got to no 52 here and 7 in US are awful and not going to do her any favours, lets hope she has got brillant tracks on the album and she has accidently released 2 shitty ones.

OK. So I think it's a good song, but it's not something you would release as a second single. Mimi honey, you could have done better love! Also, re: Leona, she might have lots of fans and a cool new tune, but unlike Mimi she has to rely on stupid headlines to get chart positions, like "I am so into Twilight" when she has a new single out! Mimi relies on her songs, and doesn't do stupid stories to sell songs. And DS, lol, you give that annoying Hannah Montana thing 5 stars and Mimi 2 stars. WTF!

Sorry, I was wrong, after listening again I think it's good. To the person that replied to me sorry I see you write in better English than me. Mariah can count me as a new fan!
