ChartJackers: 'I've Got Nothing'

What are the chances of getting a single all the way to the top of the charts without the backing of a major record label? Well, having signed up for the BBC's ChartJackers project, and to raise money for Children In Need, YouTube bloggers Johnny, Jimmy, Charlie and Alex have set about doing just that with the help of their loyal online fanbase.

Given that 'I've Got Nothing' was written, performed and recorded by an entirely random assortment of contributors - anyone watching online who wanted to get involved, essentially - the result is a surprisingly coherent and chirpy effort, albeit one that sounds more like McFly circa 2005 than anything that's troubled the charts of late. But the main obstacle facing the project is a lack of exposure - this isn't even playlisted on Radio 1, so it's unlikely to make much of a top 40 impact, let alone go all the way to the top.
